Candian-born designer Rozemerie Cuevas has come a long way from her first fashion show at the age of 18.  With
the success of Jacqueline Conoir over the past 25 years, and now the recent opening flagship 8,000 sq ft boutique
studio and the launch of the new trend line JAC, Rozemerie is one of Canada's most respected and successful
designers of her time and her ongoing evolving collections continue to draw international status and recognition.

Here, Rozemerie gives us some insight about being a designer, what inspires her and things she enjoys other than fashion.

Did you always think that fashion was what you were going to do?

I was initially attending school for commerce and economics but had always designed and sewn my own clothing and fell into designing my own collection purely by accident.

Why launch JAC?  How did this come about?

I have been designing Jacqueline Conoir for 25 years and although there is still a need for the sophisticated glamour of the Jacqueline  Conoir collection, there is also a huge demand for a more casual and edgy “ in your face attitude” collection.  So JAC was created.

How do you come up with new designs for each season?

Everything goes in fashion today so it is more difficult to narrow down what it is that I want to do rather than run out of ideas.

What do you love most about your work?

I love that I wear so many different hats and things are never boring.  I am able to do the designing, take part in sales and marketing, and brainstorm on growth strategies.

Who or what inspires you?

Many things are inspirational to me such as, young designers, established designers, trend magazines, strong women, glamorous women and so much more.

What are you proudest of?

Surviving the fashion industry for 25 years and being able to build a brand with the reputation that Jacqueline Conoir and JAC has.

Other than fashion, what are you hobbies?

Spending time and traveling with my daughters and husband.  Skiing, walking and cooking.

What are some must-have items in a woman’s wardrobe?

A straight leg pant, a wide leg pant, a great blazer, a great blouse, a unique t-shirt and a fabulous dress.

Name your favourite vacation destination.

Traveling has always been a part of my life.  It has been a goal of mine to visit as many places in the world as I possibly can.  I have been to France, Spain, Italy, Australia, USA, Vietnam, China and Croatia.  My next travels will take me to India, Bali, Thailand and Cambodia.  So far I have learned something from each place I have visited.  I must say that the coast of France is my favourite for now.   The coast has so much culture, great food and excellent fashion to be experienced.

What do you look for when casting models?

A model must have a unique look and her personality must come out in her walk.  She must be able to make an edgy walk look both hip and elegant at the same time.  Confidence is a must and a positive attitude are a must.
